Poron plate and case foam for Keychron K4
Made from polyurethane open-cell foam, Poron foam inserts are used to modify the sound of your keyboard
Plate Foam - Sits between the switch plate and PCB
Upper and Lower Case Foam - Sits below the PCB in the case
Fits perfectly, with cutouts for all the little details. Be careful when handling the foam, since some parts are so thin that they can easily break. I paired this foam kit with some masking tape on the PCB as well and now the K4 sounds amazing.
Shipping information was unclear and misleading and responses from you customer support were quite short and seemed to care very little about my order. I think I’ve managed to re-arrange delivery but still not sure.
Overall this kit worked well enough to improve the pretty rough acoustics of the default Keychron K4, but the foam I was most excited for in the kit didn’t fit. Specifically the plate foam, which was so thick that it prevented the switches from successfully reaching the pinholes on the PCB. This resulted in a bunch of errant keystrokes or missed keystrokes.
And no matter what I tried (clipping the excess foam around the stabilizer wires, etc.) the foam was ultimately just too thick to sit comfortably between the plate and PCB without interrupting function. If it was even just a millimeter thinner it would likely have made the difference, but sadly it’s not.
It was my first time doing keyboard mods. I purchased the keychron k4 with a hot swappable PCB. I knew 96% keyboards were not extremely popular but I was lucky they had a foam kit exactly for this one. Now it sounds great!
